Thin pavers have changed the paver industry by providing a way to cover existing concrete instead of removing it. A thin layer of sand is placed over the concrete prior to the pavers being laid. This keeps the pavers from cracking by allowing them to shift with the earth’s shifting. There are other products that accompany the thin-paver such as bull-nose coping and deco drains for pool decks.
Thin pavers come only in small sizes because they have a smaller aspect ratio (width times depth) than full size pavers. The most popular combination has three different sizes: 6x9, 6x6, and 6x4. They come in more than forty standard colors, and most of the time can be matched with thick pavers for a uniform look.
Thin Pavers are primarily used around existing pool deck surfaces, but can also be used on entryways, door pads, patios, and balconies. They are best used over any concrete surface that does not need to be removed. (Outdoor Impressions DOES NOT recommend using a thin-paver on ANY driveway application per ICPI standards)
